Instructor Bio

Jeffery B. Price, DDS, MS


Dr. Price is a Clinical Associate Professor of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology and Director of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry in Baltimore, MD and is board certified by the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology. He is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology at the UNC School of Dentistry in Chapel Hill, NC, and a visiting faculty member at the Spear Education Center and LD Pankey Institute. Before entering the specialty of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology, Dr. Price practiced general and adult restorative dentistry in Hendersonville, NC, for 24 years. While in practice, Dr. Price completed the continuum at the L.D. Pankey Institute in Key Biscayne, FL.  He attained his Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry as well as Diplomate status in the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. Dr. Price is currently a Senior Editorial Board Member for the ICOI-sponsored journal, Implant Dentistry and is a reviewer for the International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and the Journal of Dental Education.

Course Objectives

Students completing the course should achieve a basic understanding of the following attributes of Dental Cone Beam CT:

  1. Be able to discuss the basic principles of CBCT; and, specifically, be able to list and discuss the main differences between Dental CBCT and Medical CT
  2. Be able to describe the advantages and disadvantages of the leading CBCT viewing software programs; and, to understand the importance of tasks such as drawing the panoramic curve and mapping the mandibular canal in CBCT volumes
  3. Be able to recognize common anatomic landmarks in 3D radiographic images
  4. Be able to describe the risks and benefits of CBCT examinations
  5. Understand the importance of recognizing abnormalities and incidental findings in CBCT images
  6. Evaluate and select appropriate CBCT viewing software
  7. Minimize the presence of CBCT imaging errors and artifacts in order to maximize image quality
  8. Outline and discuss selection criteria, reporting responsibilities, medicolegal requirements and accepted standards of the use of CBCT imaging
