Course Objectives

After completing this course, you will be able to:
  • Identify the factors that promote oral conditions such as dental caries and gingival diseases
  • Identify pathologic conditions in the child patient
  • Apply safe radiation practices to the diagnosis of oral conditions
  • Practice preventive oral health interventions
  • Distinguish between and apply therapeutic options for increasingly invasive carious lesions in primary and young permanent teeth
  • Distinguish between and apply therapeutic options for increasingly extensive traumatic injuries to the primary and permanent teeth
  • Formulate and perform age-appropriate basic and advanced behavior guidance techniques
  • Diagnose and manage problems of orthodontic and orthopedic origin in the growing child
  • Manage oral heath interventions for patients with special health care needs
  • Recognize the signs of child abuse and neglect
