High Admit Patients Without Food at Home: Changing Paradigm For Care

More Americans are hungry than you might think. Inadequate nutrition can significantly affect chronic health conditions. Study finds that more than 50% of high admit patients do not have regular access to healthy food or are at risk for not having enough food at home. These patients are often frail or have difficulty walking and are dependent on others, family or community, for acquiring and preparing their meals.  If eating well can keep people healthier, and out of the hospital, medical care needs to include assurances of the patient’s access to food and health-related social services.
