Milestone: Aortic Heart Valve Replacement via Catheter

Current replacement is by open-heart surgery only which excludes many seriously-ill and fragile patients in advanced heart failure who cannot endure surgery. The success of the transcatheter valve implantation is life-saving and offers dramatic improvement in the quality of life for this population. This procedure is delicate but minimally-invasive so the hospital stays and recovery time are short.
