Course Objective

  • Recognize the mammographic and sonographic features of breast masses that distinguish between a likely benign or malignant origin
  • Discuss the relative strengths and limitations of different types of imaging including mammography, ultrasound, and MRI for probably benign breast lesions
  • Recognize the various methods and instruments available for percutaneous biopsy under stereotactic, ultrasound, and MR guidance
  • Explain the potential and limitations of alternative breast imaging techniques such as nuclear imaging techniques and physiologic rationales to imaging
  • Recognize and understand the different approaches toward image guided biopsy including limitations and potentials
  • Recognize the nature of different MRI techniques and the consequences of such modifications
  • Recognize the potentials and limitations of imaging surveillance as opposed to the need for biopsy
